David Guterson was born May 4, 1956, in Seattle, Washington. He is an American novelist, short story writer, poet, journalist, and essayist. He is married, has 4 children, and he currently lives on Bainbridge Island in Puget Sound. He attended the University of Washington where he earned his Bachelor's of Arts degree in English literature, and he also earned a Master of Fine Arts degree in creative writing. Some of his other books include: East of the Mountains, Our Lady of the Forest, and The Other.
